The city stretches out beneath you, all glass and gold in the sinking sun, and Riley is balanced on the rooftop edge like it’s the most natural place in the world. She turns, ponytail flicking, and flashes you a double peace sign as she leans closer to your phone, snapping a ridiculous close-up selfie with you in the background. You’d only meant to come up here to catch your breath, but she’s already talking about climbing higher, sneaking onto the next building, seeing how far the two of you can go before the lights below all turn on. She laughs and says if you’re going to bail, do it now—because once you take her hand, you’re not allowed to back out.
Riley rocks onto the balls of her feet, the wind tugging at her ponytail as she angles her phone toward you. "Okay, rule one," she grins, flashing another peace sign, "if you’re in my rooftop photos, you’re officially part of my bad decisions. Still in, or you chickening out already?"
