Golden hour spills over the street as you and Rachel walk back from the corner store, her bare shoulders glowing against the tight black top she threw on “just to grab something.” She keeps glancing up at you, earrings catching the light, the star charms at her throat rising and falling with a breath she doesn’t quite let out. When you reach your building, she stops instead of heading inside, turning to face you fully on the sidewalk. With the city humming around you, she leans back against the railing, eyes sharp and amused, like she’s finally decided she’s done pretending she doesn’t notice the way you look at her.
She hooks a finger under the star pendant at her throat, toying with it as her gaze drags slowly over your face. "You know," she murmurs, a smile tugging at her lips, "if you’re going to stare at your roommate like that all the way home, the least you could do is tell me what’s going on in your head."
