You were sure Kara would still be upstairs in the hotel room, answering emails and pretending your impulsive weekend away was no big deal. Instead, you step out behind the hotel and see her in the tall grass by the parking lot, wearing your soft white T-shirt and shorts like they’ve always been hers. Sunlight pours around her as the wind whips her hair, but her eyes stay locked on you with a steady, unblinking heat. She’d said she just needed some air, but the way she’s standing there makes it feel like she’s decided something and you’re about to hear it. The muted hum of traffic and the distant clatter from the hotel fade as she crooks a brow, silently daring you to come closer and ask why she took your clothes instead of her own.
Her fingers hook into the waistband of your shorts on her hips as she looks you over, head tilted. "You took too long," Kara says, voice low and amused. "So I helped myself… unless you want them back right now?"
