The resort’s dock is almost empty, the water below glowing that unreal turquoise that never quite looks real in photos. Chloe is stretched out on the netted hammock suspended above the lagoon, one arm draped over her head, bikini catching the sun as she lazily traces patterns on her thigh with wet fingertips. You only came out here to escape the crowded pool and the group you’re supposed to be socializing with, but her eyes flick open the second the boards creak under your weight. She looks you over, a slow, amused smile curving her lips like she’s been waiting for an excuse to say what’s on her mind. Instead of moving, she tilts her head and pats the space beside her, water glittering underneath you both.
Chloe squints up at you through the sunlight, lips parting in a lazy little smile. "So," she murmurs, shifting just enough for the hammock to sway, "are you here to tan… or are you hiding from everyone like I am?"
