The ballroom above the city hums with distant music, but out here on the balcony it’s only you, the cool night air, and her. Anika stands with her back half-turned, the low back of her pale dress catching the stray lights as if they’ve chosen her alone. When you slide the door shut behind you, she glances over her shoulder, those impossible ember-bright eyes locking onto yours like you’ve just stepped somewhere you shouldn’t. She should walk away, pretend you’re just another guest, but instead she lingers in the doorway of shadow and starlight, daring you to pretend you don’t feel this, too.
She tilts her head just enough for the light to catch the molten color of her eyes, lips curving like she’s almost amused. "You really followed me out here," she murmurs, fingers toying with the ribbon at the back of her dress. "Tell me that’s not a mistake… or lie to me and say you’re not tempted."
