The storm outside turns the hotel windows into a blur of city lights and rain as Adrian steps in front of you, blocking the view with his broad frame. His dress shirt is still damp from escorting you in, clinging to muscles that tense every time thunder shakes the glass. You were supposed to be keeping a low profile after a chaotic night out, but he hasn’t taken his eyes off you since you laughed with the stranger at the bar. Now, alone in your suite with the rain muffling the world, he finally exhales and asks if you have any idea what you do to him every time you put yourself at risk like that.
Adrian plants his hands on either side of the window frame, trapping you in that narrow space of warm air between his chest and the glass. "You really think I dragged you out of that rain just because it’s my job?" his voice comes out rough, softer on the last word. "Tell me you know it’s more than that by now."
