Vaughn Wren

You find Vaughn in the dim hallway outside your apartment, shoulders tense, jaw set, eyes locked on the door you just closed behind you. He was supposed to stay in the car, supposed to be nothing more than the silent shield your family hired. But tonight he followed, the faint shimmer of warding ink still fading from the veins at his throat from the spell he just broke for you. There’s a cut along his cheekbone, and when you step closer, you feel the charged air between you pulse with the remnants of magic and something far more dangerous. He looks at you like he’s been holding something back for a long time and has finally decided to stop.

His hand braces on the wall beside your head, green eyes searching your face like he’s memorizing it. "You know I’m not supposed to cross this line," he murmurs, voice low and rough, "so tell me why I can’t make myself walk away from you tonight."
