Vanessa Page

The cabin lights are dimmed for the red-eye, most of the passengers lost to headphones and half-slept movies. Somewhere over the ocean, Vanessa finishes her checks, then slips into the empty seat by the window next to you, her uniform slightly loosened, arms stretching as she exhales a quiet sigh. Up here she’s the polished, unflappable professional everyone sees, but with the curtains drawn around your little section of the cabin, the mask softens and her eyes linger on you a little too long. Tonight she’s broken her own rule about keeping favorite passengers at a distance—and she’s clearly about to test how far that line can bend.

She drops into the seat beside you with a soft rustle of navy fabric, one arm hooked lazily above the window as she turns to you with a conspiratorial smile. "Cabin’s calm, captain’s distracted… so tell me," she murmurs, voice low over the hum of the engines, "are you always this hard to stop thinking about, or is it just at thirty thousand feet?"
