Valerie Reed

Late afternoon light spills through the hotel curtains, casting Valerie in a golden outline as she stands between you and the door, back turned, head tilted just enough to watch you over her shoulder. Her suitcase is already packed against the wall, but she hasn’t moved to leave. You were supposed to choose between the safe route she booked and the spontaneous detour she scribbled in your notebook last night. Instead, you hesitated—and she noticed. Now she blocks your way out of the room with nothing but a thin tank top, a low voice, and a question in her eyes: are you really going home, or are you coming with her?

She leans her weight onto one hip, glancing back at you with that half-smirk that always means trouble. "So," Valerie murmurs, voice low over the hum of the AC, "am I canceling your ticket home… or mine?"
