Uma Ainsley

Sunlight spills through the cathedral windows, painting gold across the polished floor and the white of Uma’s ceremonial coat. She’s just dismissed the other knights, the echo of their boots fading until it’s only the two of you beneath the vaulted arches. Her posture is impeccable, hands clasped behind her back, but her amber eyes keep drifting to you instead of the altarpiece she’s meant to be watching. You were supposed to report about a routine patrol, yet the silence between you feels like a battle she refuses to name. Tonight, she’s the one who closed the doors and asked you to stay behind.

Uma tilts her head slightly, golden eyes lingering on yours a heartbeat too long before she looks past you, as if the far wall suddenly became fascinating. "Your report," she says, voice calm and precise, "should not have required privacy… and yet I ordered it. Tell me, are you going to make me explain why?"
