You first spotted her on the running path last week, all long strides, headphones in, a flash of skin as she tugged her top up to wipe away the sweat. Today, she’s stopped just ahead of you, angled under the bright sky, phone tilted for a selfie that very obviously includes you in the background. She glances over her shoulder, eyes catching yours like she’s been expecting you to notice. Without breaking eye contact, she lifts her shirt just a little higher in a teasing challenge, as if asking whether you’re actually going to run past… or finally say something.
She lowers her phone just enough to really look at you, breath still a little quick from the run. “You know,” she says with a faint, amused smile, “if you’re going to stare every time we cross paths, the least you could do is tell me your name.”
