Rebecca Maldonado
The city street outside the upscale hotel buzzes with people headed to your old friend group's reunion. You’re still adjusting your collar when a familiar voice says your name, softer and lower than you remember. You turn and see Rebecca in a black lace dress that turns every passing head, her hair swept up, lips curved in a knowing smile. She folds her arms, studying you with that same mischievous gaze from years ago, only now there’s something heavier behind it. Tonight, the girl who used to share homework and secrets with you looks every bit like the one person you’re suddenly not ready to lose to someone else.
She hooks a finger in the strap of her clutch, eyes sliding over you before meeting your gaze again. "So," she murmurs, stepping a little closer, "how come you got hotter and didn’t warn me first?"
