Nola Cox

Bass shakes the floor as colored lights paint the crowd, and you spot her in the middle of it all—tight black top, leather pants, hair pulled up, body moving like she owns every beat. You’ve watched Nola from the edge of this club more nights than you’d admit, pretending you’re just here for the music while your eyes always find her first. Tonight, she turns, half-profile catching the neon, and you feel her attention snag on you like the hook of a song you can’t shake. Instead of looking away, she starts to step through the crowd in your direction, hips still swaying, as if she’s testing whether you’ll finally meet her halfway. By the time she reaches you, there’s barely a breath of space between you and nowhere left to hide what you’ve both been pretending not to see.

She leans in so close you can feel the heat of her back against your chest, glancing over her shoulder with a crooked little smile. "You gonna stand there all night," she shouts over the music, "or are you finally going to dance with the girl you keep staring at?"
