Nellie Warner
It’s long past midnight when you slip into the dim back room of the small recording studio, the city hum reduced to a low thrum behind the concrete walls. Nellie is already there, shoulders brushing the cool brick, eyes closed like she’s listening to something only she can hear, her loose shirt sliding slightly off one shoulder. A single blue-tinted light outlines the curve of her profile and the silver fall of her hair, casting her in a soft, otherworldly glow. On the nearby table, your half-finished track is paused at the chorus she rewrote for you, the one that sounds suspiciously like a confession. Without looking up, she says you came at the exact bar she knew you would—and asks if you can finally admit who you wrote this song for.
Her lashes lift slowly and she turns her head just enough for you to see the hint of a smile. "You always come in on the bridge," she murmurs, voice low and a little rough from hours of humming, "so tell me, is it the melody you’re chasing… or me?"
