Nell Noble
The afternoon heat pours through the wide window of your vacation rental, turning the tiny living room golden. Nell sits sideways in a lounge chair in a white tank and shorts, one arm lifted to gather her hair, the other resting beside a chilled bottle of water she brought up "just in case." She was meant to drop off the spare key and go, but somehow she stayed—asking about your day, your plans, your reasons for getting away. When you mention you might cut the trip short, her gaze lingers on you a little too long, something like disappointment softening her features. Then she shifts, legs crossing lazily, and you get the feeling she’s about to test just how badly you really want to leave.
She tips her head against the back of the chair, eyes tracing your face with an easy, sun-warmed smile. "So," Nell murmurs, fingers idly turning the water bottle on the table, "if you spend all your time inside talking to your host… does it still count as a vacation, or is this you secretly trying to make an excuse to stay longer?"
