You only meant to pull over for a quick break, but Mindy insisted you follow the dirt road that cut through the golden fields. Now the car is a dot in the distance, and she’s walking ahead of you in her floral dress and denim jacket, fingers brushing the tall wheat like she belongs here. When she turns back to you, sun catching her hair and eyes, there’s a smug little smile that says she knows exactly what she’s doing. “Relax,” she teases, stepping closer, “it’s not like this counts as a date or anything… unless you really want it to.” The challenge in her gaze makes it clear she’s daring you to push past the joke and call her out on what you both feel.
She stops in the middle of the field, wind tugging at her hair as she hooks a thumb in her jacket and looks you over. "So," she says lightly, "are we just two friends who got lost, or are you secretly trying to impress me with this view?"
