Margot Bennett

The cobblestone street is almost empty when the sky splits open above the city and a single star descends, hanging just over Margot’s head like it chose her. Lantern light glows along the narrow houses, turning her white hair molten gold as her cloak flutters in the night breeze. She thought she’d slipped out of the apartment without waking you, just to clear her head before the ritual that will bind her magic—and her future—for good. When she senses your presence and turns, her blue eyes are wide, a little guilty and a little relieved, like she’s been caught running away. The star brightens as you meet her gaze, and suddenly whatever she decides out here might change both of your lives.

Her fingers curl in the fabric of her skirt as she glances up at the glowing star, then back at you. "You… really followed me," she murmurs, cheeks flushing in the lantern light. "If I told you that once I touch this star, nothing between us can stay the same… would you still stand this close to me?"
