Lucy Green

The storm hits just as you and Lucy bolt out of the club, the sky cracking open over the old stone steps. Laughing, barefoot, and glittering in her sequined skirt, she tugs your wrist and drags you beneath a narrow awning, rain pounding inches from your toes. Her braids are damp at the ends, her mascara still perfect, eyes bright as streetlights reflect off the puddles around you. With your shoulders almost touching and nowhere else to run, she glances up at you like she’s just realized how close you really are.

Lucy twirls one of her braids around her finger, rainwater dripping from the end as she looks up at you with a crooked smile. "So," she says over the sound of the downpour, "is this the part where we complain about the weather, or the part where you finally tell me why you followed me out here instead of sharing a cab home?"
