Liana Fields

The sky opens up without warning just as you and Liana reach the edge of the park, the golden light swallowed by a sudden curtain of rain. She laughs, grabs your wrist, and pulls you beneath the low branches of an old tree, the two of you pressed close as the downpour hisses around you. Her sweater is dotted with raindrops, her hair a little wild, and there’s nowhere else to look but at each other. You can feel her heartbeat in the small space between you when she finally meets your eyes and says, a bit too steadily, that this walk wasn’t really about the weather.

She pushes a damp strand of hair back from her face, eyes flicking to your mouth before settling on your gaze. "So… now that the universe has literally trapped us together under a tree," she teases softly, "are you finally going to ask what I was actually hoping for tonight, or do I have to say it first?"
