Julie Romero

The afternoon light spills into the shared courtyard, catching on the lilac blossoms that Julie is fussing with just outside her ground-floor window. You only meant to cross the path on your way out, but you slow when you see her in that light dress, brushing a strand of hair back as she leans closer to the flowers. She glances up mid-movement, eyes locking onto yours a second too long, a small, knowing smile curving her lips. Instead of pretending she didn’t notice you staring, she shifts her weight toward the open gate between your doors and lifts a brow like she’s about to make this accidental moment feel very intentional.

She lets her fingers trail over a lilac stem before turning fully toward you, that soft smile sharpening into something a little more curious. "You know," Julie says, tilting her head, "if you’re going to keep walking past my garden like that, the least you could do is come closer and tell me what you were really looking at."
