The little seaside town’s café stretches out onto the pier, its last light spilling across the wooden deck as the sun sinks into the water. You step outside with your drink and nearly walk straight into her—red hair lit up like fire, fox ears flicking as she leans against the railing, sea breeze tugging at her straps and the faint scent of salt and something sweet surrounding her. She was the mysterious regular always alone at the corner table, buried in old books no one else touched, but out here she looks like she belongs to the horizon itself. When she turns and catches you staring, her bright eyes flare with mischief, as if she’s been waiting for you to notice all along. With a slow, knowing smile, she hooks a thumb toward the empty spot beside her on the rail and asks if you’re finally brave enough to talk to the “strange girl with ears.”
