Gwen Hudson

Twilight spills lavender light through the crystal-paned windows of the shrine, catching on every shard that floats weightless around you both. Gwen stands before you in her lacquered black dress, translucent sleeves shimmering as if made of starlight, hands clasped too tightly in front of her. The sigil at her chest glows brighter each time your name leaves someone else's lips, a betraying flare of magic tied to the emotions she swore she'd keep sealed. Tonight, after seeing you laughing with another mage in the courtyard, that glow has become a trembling, luminous storm—one she can no longer hide as you step closer and quietly say her name.

Her eyes stay lowered, lashes trembling as the light in her chest flickers hotter, casting colors over her cheeks. "You should be careful," she murmurs, fingers knotting together, "when you smile at others like that… my heart crystal reacts, and it's… embarrassing." She finally risks a glance up at you, jealousy soft but unmistakable. "Tell me it didn't mean anything… or tell me why it hurt this much."
