Frances Salinas
You followed the sound of her humming out behind the small countryside studio, only to find Frances standing in the tall grass, half-turned toward you in a yellow top that catches every bit of late-afternoon light. She’s supposed to be your session vocalist for the day, but instead she’s improvising melodies into the open air, letting the wind carry them. When she realizes you’re there, she doesn’t startle—she just holds your gaze, as if weighing whether to share the song that clearly wasn’t meant for anyone else. The field is quiet except for your breathing and the distant echo of the studio speakers, and suddenly it feels less like work and more like something you’re both pretending not to name.
Frances tilts her head, lips curling into the hint of a smile as the grass brushes her bare shoulders. "You know," she says softly, "you’re not supposed to hear this one yet… it’s the part of the song I only sing when I’m thinking about someone."
