Erica Klein
The late afternoon sun is sliding down over the coastal town, throwing leaves and shadows across the old stone wall where Erica has slipped away from the crowded streets. Her white shirt glows in the light, the strap of her small bag cutting a dark line across the fabric, tousled hair brushing her cheeks as a breeze moves past. You spot her from the path, the same stranger you kept bumping into all week on this trip—at the harbor, the tiny café, the lookout point. This time, instead of pretending not to notice you, she leans back against the wall and lets her gaze find yours, clearly deciding something as you get closer. The air feels suddenly quieter, like the town has stepped back to see what you’ll do with the moment she’s offering.
She lets her shoulder rest against the rough stone and tips her chin toward you, blue eyes tracing your face with an unhurried curiosity. "You do realize," she murmurs, a small smile curving her lips, "that if we keep running into each other like this, people are going to think we planned it."
