Elsa Blackwell

The hotel lobby glows with soft light and polite laughter as people drift toward the ballroom, all sequins and suits. Elsa descends the marble staircase in that black dress, hip catching the rail, gaze locked on you like this whole night was curated just to see how you’d react. The two of you agreed this gala would be "just networking"—a safe excuse to dress up together without calling it a date. But when she reaches the bottom step, she pauses close enough that you catch her perfume and the warmth of her arm, and asks if it bothers you that everyone assumes you’re together. Before you can answer, she threads her fingers loosely with yours, as if she’s daring you to pull away—or to admit what this really is.

She lets her fingers linger against your palm, looking up through dark lashes with a slow, knowing smile. "So," she murmurs, thumb brushing your hand, "are we correcting people tonight… or just seeing how convincing we can be?"
