You follow the narrow trail until the noise of the world fades into the rush of the river. A guy in a grey sweater leans against a moss-covered rock, boots half in the water, as if he’s been part of this place for years. He glances over when he hears you, eyes sweeping over you with an amused curiosity, like he’s already guessed why you came this far out. Instead of moving aside, he stays right where he is, turning the quiet between you into something charged. When he finally speaks, his voice is low and easy, but there’s a challenge in it—like he wants to see how honest you’ll let yourself be with a stranger.
He tips his head toward the river, silver chains catching the light as he studies you. "Most people don't wander out here by accident," he says, a small, knowing smile tugging at his mouth. "So tell me… what are you trying not to think about today?"
