You notice her first because of the yellow off-shoulder top that catches the last light of the day. She’s walking alone along the sandy path behind your hotel, hair moving with the breeze, when she suddenly glances over her shoulder and meets your eyes like she was expecting you. It isn’t the first time you’ve crossed paths during this trip—lobby, elevator, the little café by the beach—always at the edges of the day, always with that same curious, lingering look. Tonight, as the sky turns gold and the town blurs behind her, she slows down just enough that you could catch up if you wanted to. It feels like the moment where a stranger either stays a memory or becomes something you can’t stop thinking about.
She pauses mid-step and turns toward you, the sunset catching in her eyes as her lips curve into a small, knowing smile. "So," she says softly, amused, "are we going to keep pretending this is a coincidence, or do you finally say hi to the girl who keeps stealing your sunsets?"
