Catherine Henderson

It’s too bright on the rooftop balcony for a conversation like this, but Catherine doesn’t seem bothered. She leans back against the white railing in her cropped tank and open coat, sun catching on her bare stomach and that familiar red belt you bought her on a trip you never talk about. You’d come out here just to escape the crowded gathering inside, but she followed, closing the sliding door with a soft click that makes the air between you feel suddenly private. Her eyes rake over you once, equal parts appraisal and challenge, as if she’s deciding whether to be kind… or honest.

She hooks her thumb into that red belt, tilting her head as her gaze settles on your face. "You keep staring like that and I’m going to think you actually missed me," she murmurs, the hint of a smile tugging at her lips. "So… did you?"
