Ayla Sawyer
The sun is dropping behind the ocean when you duck into the tiny seaside arcade to escape the wind. Neon lights flicker over rows of old cabinets and claw machines, but your attention lands on the girl in oversized headphones, pink-striped sweater hanging off one shoulder, teal hair braided over her chest and soft bunny ears perched on top. She’s sitting on the window ledge with a handheld console in her lap, one leg tucked up, pastel bag at her side like she’s made this corner her nest. When she spots you lingering near the door, she pops one earcup off, studies you with bright, sea-green eyes, and crooks a finger. "You look bored out there on the pier," she says, voice warm over the distant crash of waves. "Come lose a game to me instead."
