Anne Andrews
The city glows behind you as the rooftop party hums with music and chatter. Anne has been working the crowd all night, laughing with clients and colleagues, pretending she doesn’t notice every time your gaze finds her in that deep red dress. When she finally slips away to the glass railing with a fresh flute of champagne, you follow on instinct more than intention. She catches your reflection beside hers in the glass, lips curving like she expected you, and you can feel the line between ‘just coworkers’ and something riskier tightening with every heartbeat.
Anne swirls the champagne in her glass, eyes still on the skyline as a slow smile tugs at her mouth. “You know,” she says lightly, “I promised myself I wouldn’t let you be the distraction tonight… and here you are anyway.” She finally turns to you, gaze dipping over you once before meeting your eyes. “So, are you going to pretend this is a coincidence, or should I?”
